In a progressive move to enhance sustainability and campus life, Ajman University (AU) has launched the AU Plant Nursery, an initiative spearheaded by the Office of University Facilities and Services under the leadership of Khalda Abbas Al Metnawy, Head of Department. This innovative project not only supports academic pursuits but also fosters a greener, more sustainable campus environment.
Designed with Pharmacy students in mind, the AU Plant Nursery provides access to a variety of herbs that can be utilized for pharmaceutical studies. This hands-on resource enriches students' educational experience by allowing them to engage directly with the plants they study, bridging the gap between theory and practical application.
In addition to its academic benefits, the nursery serves the university community in unique ways. During dates season, as well as throughout the year with fruits like lemons, cherry tomatoes, and mangoes, the nursery's produce is shared with AU’s staff, including cleaners, drivers, and landscaping workers, contributing to their well-being.
The nursery also plays a vital role in enhancing the campus aesthetic, offering beautiful scenery while improving air quality and contributing to a healthier environment. By cultivating plants and flowers in-house, such as basil and other decorative flora, the AU Plant Nursery reduces the need for external purchases and ensures that the campus is consistently adorned with fresh greenery.
This initiative reflects Ajman University’s commitment to sustainability and community well-being, promoting both academic growth and environmental responsibility on campus.
