Ajman University students have stepped into a unique challenge at COP28, participating in The Escape Climate Change - Mangrove Edition, a one-of-a-kind escape room designed to immerse young participants in the fight against climate change. Organized by the Environment Agency Abu Dhabi and Emirates Nature-WWF, this escape room is part of the COP28 Youth Climate and Nature Series—a movement aimed at mobilizing a new generation of volunteers and citizen scientists to champion environmental sustainability across the UAE, aligning with both COP28 goals and the nation’s Year of Sustainability.
Set within a vividly recreated mangrove forest, the escape room transports participants into a high-stakes virtual scenario simulating extreme weather events. Through teamwork, critical thinking, and innovative solutions, participants are tasked with utilizing Nature-based Solutions (NbS), specifically focusing on mangroves’ ability to mitigate climate impacts. This immersive adventure highlights the critical role of mangroves in climate resilience and their capacity to restore natural ecosystems and absorb carbon dioxide effectively. It demonstrates the UAE’s commitment to scaling NbS projects while inspiring youth to become active leaders in environmental stewardship.
The Climate Escape Room initiative not only provides participants with a hands-on experience but also invites them to engage directly in the UAE’s environmental efforts. This experience empowers Ajman University students with practical insights and tools, encouraging them to become proactive advocates for climate action in their communities. Through this immersive exercise, Ajman University continues its mission to foster a new generation of environmentally conscious leaders equipped to drive impactful change for a sustainable future.
