The session took place on Friday, December 1, 2023, at COP28's Greening Education Hub in Dubai. Organized by the University of Oxford in collaboration with Ajman University, the event highlighted student-led projects focused on biodiversity restoration and conservation efforts across various university campuses worldwide.
The session featured presentations from student ambassadors who played key roles in advancing nature-positive initiatives. Notable speakers included Emily Stott and Nell Miles from the University of Oxford, alongside Hurairah Muzammil and Maya Haddad from Ajman University. These ambassadors were instrumental in engaging both students and staff in projects aimed at reducing biodiversity impacts, restoring ecosystems, and implementing nature-positive strategies within their universities.
In addition, Ayadi Mishra from IIT Bombay, Favour Eragbie from the University of Benin, Sora Yamaguchi from the University of Tokyo, and Avery Morin and Anastacia Chartrand from Laurentian University contributed their diverse perspectives and shared their experiences working on nature conservation challenges in their regions.
This session reflected the goals of the Nature Positive Universities initiative, which encouraged universities to measure their biodiversity impacts, set restoration targets, and lead by example in promoting sustainability. By fostering global collaboration and empowering students, the session showcased how young leaders had made significant contributions to biodiversity and nature conservation, creating a pathway toward a sustainable, nature-positive future.
