In October 2022, Ajman University students, staff, and alums embraced the opportunity to connect with children from the local community to nurture their environmental consciousness. This special event focused on instilling a deep sense of environmental stewardship by emphasizing the importance of caring for our planet.
The children embarked on an educational journey, learning the skill of planting and nurturing green life during a visit to a plant nursery, enabling them to be self-sufficient and environmentally responsible. Additionally, they had the unique opportunity of visiting an animal farm, where they interacted with and cared for various animals, promoting empathy and responsibility toward living creatures. Furthermore, the children experienced feeding fish, gaining insights into aquatic ecosystems and the significance of marine life conservation.
The Office of Environmental Health & Safety thoughtfully designed this comprehensive event to correspond with multiple SDGs. Specifically, the plant-related activities directly contributed to the objectives of Life on Land (SDG 15) by emphasizing the significance of terrestrial ecosystems and the responsible utilization of land resources. Simultaneously, the interaction with marine life, including fish-related experiences, underscored the relevance of Life Below Water (SDG 14) by instilling an appreciation for aquatic ecosystems and the imperative to protect marine biodiversity. The event also raises awareness about Climate Action (SDG 13) by cultivating an understanding of environmental fragility and the urgency to address climate-related challenges.
Ajman University's commitment to promoting sustainability through such events actively advances these global goals. The experience provided the children with valuable insights, inspiring them to become stewards of the environment and take responsible actions for a sustainable future. These immersive educational initiatives play a vital role in nurturing environmentally conscious individuals.
