AJMAN, UAE – In a significant move that underscores its deep commitment to addressing the world's most pressing challenges, Ajman University (AU) has announced its official membership with the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), a global initiative launched by the UN Secretary-General to mobilize expertise for sustainable development.
This strategic membership aligns AU with a prestigious network of universities, research centers, and knowledge institutions worldwide, all dedicated to implementing the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement on climate change.
As a member of the SDSN, Ajman University will actively contribute to and benefit from a collaborative platform focused on practical problem-solving for sustainable development. This includes:
Promoting Integrated Education: Developing and sharing educational programs and curricula that equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to achieve the SDGs.
Driving Applied Research: Conducting and leveraging interdisciplinary research to identify and scale innovative solutions for environmental, social, and economic challenges.
Strengthening Public Engagement: Collaborating with government, business, and civil society to facilitate the adoption of sustainable pathways and policies, both locally and regionally.
"We are immensely proud to join the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network," said Maya Haddad, Senior Sustainability Manager at Ajman University. "This membership is a testament to our institutional commitment to being a catalyst for positive change. It provides an unparalleled opportunity for our faculty and students to engage in global dialogues, contribute meaningful research, and help translate the Sustainable Development Goals into tangible action within our community and beyond."
The SDSN, launched in 2012, works under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General to accelerate learning and promote integrated approaches that address the interconnected economic, social, and environmental dimensions of sustainable development. Its global network is structured around both national and regional chapters.
AU's membership will enable it to connect with leading experts, participate in specialized working groups, and access cutting-edge resources to further integrate the SDGs into its academic and operational fabric. This initiative directly supports the university's strategic pillars of academic excellence, research innovation, and social responsibility.
