Ajman University (AU) reinforced its commitment to sustainable innovation by participating in the international webinar, “Innovating for a Sustainable Future: The Role of ICT and AI in Greening TVET,” on November 13, 2024.
The event, jointly organized by UNESCO IITE and the Wedon Cloud Education Group, was a key initiative under the "Building Future Schools with ICT Competence" project and coincided with the COP29 climate conference in Baku, Azerbaijan. Aligned with the Greening Education Partnership, the webinar focused on integrating sustainability into curricula and strengthening educator capacities.
As an active participant in this global dialogue, Ajman University engaged with critical discussions on how Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be leveraged to build a greener future through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). The session served as a dynamic platform for exploring strategic ways to equip students with the skills needed for the emerging green economy.
The webinar delved into several key objectives, which resonate with AU's own strategic goals in sustainability and education technology. These included:
Examining the strategic integration of ICT and AI into TVET to foster green skills and sustainability.
Showcasing global best practices and innovative approaches where technology has successfully promoted environmental stewardship in education.
Identifying challenges and opportunities in adopting these technologies, from infrastructure to policy alignment.
“Engaging in these high-level UNESCO forums is crucial for staying at the forefront of educational innovation,” said Maya Haddad, Senior Sustainability Manager at Ajman University. “The insights gained on greening our curricula and leveraging AI directly support our mission to develop future-ready, environmentally conscious graduates. Participating in this session allows us to bring global best practices back to our own community and further integrate sustainability into the AU experience.”
This participation underscores Ajman University's dedication to aligning its academic and operational practices with global sustainability standards and the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in Quality Education (SDG 4) and Climate Action (SDG 13).
