Ajman University’s Office of Sustainability participated in the 3rd UNESCO World Open Educational Resources (OER) Congress, organized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in collaboration with the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation. The congress, held on November 19–20, 2024, took place for the first time in the Arab region under the theme 'Digital Public Goods: Open Solutions and AI for Inclusive Knowledge Access.'
The congress aimed to strengthen international collaboration in advancing open educational resources and to explore ways to leverage emerging technologies and artificial intelligence. The goal was to expand access to knowledge and achieve global educational equity. Participants also discussed progress in implementing the 2019 UNESCO Recommendation on OER, along with best practices that promote sustainable policies ensuring equitable access to quality education for all.
Ajman University was represented by Maya Haddad, Senior Sustainability Manager, and Diocel Ortega, Manager of Quality Assurance. They participated in a series of workshops and discussions addressing key topics such as inclusivity and equitable access to knowledge in alignment with SDG 4 – Quality Education, effective communication strategies in digital literacy and educational pedagogy, and the role of open solutions and AI in promoting inclusive access to knowledge. They also engaged in discussions with the UNESCO team on
enhancing collaboration in higher education across the UAE and contributed to proposing the launch of the UAE Universities Network for SDG Acceleration, a joint initiative between Ajman University and UNESCO.
This participation underscores the Office of Sustainability’s commitment to advancing Ajman University’s role in promoting sustainable education, fostering inclusive and innovative learning practices, and contributing to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals regionally and globally.
