Ajman University’s Vice Chancellor for Financial and Administrative Affairs, Mr. Rabi Al Khofash, recently participated as a speaker at an event by the UAE Universities Climate Network (UCN) and delivered an online speaking session titled “Considerations for Improving Energy Efficiency.” The event was part of the UCN Decarbonization Academy, an initiative launched by the UAE Universities Climate Network focused on advancing carbon neutrality efforts at universities.
During his session, Mr. Al Khofash emphasized the vital role universities in the UAE play in supporting the country’s ambitious environmental goals, including the UAE Energy Strategy 2050 and the Net Zero 2050 vision. He outlined practical steps institutions can take to boost energy efficiency, such as upgrading HVAC systems, adopting smart building technologies, and incorporating renewable energy sources.
These measures, he explained, are not only environmentally responsible but also financially wise. Energy retrofit projects, for example, can lead to significant efficiency improvements that align sustainability with sound fiscal management. Mr. Al Khofash highlighted how embedding energy efficiency into campus operations helps universities meet regulatory requirements while fostering a culture of innovation among students, faculty, and staff members.
Beyond mere compliance, he described energy efficiency as a long-term commitment to future-proofing educational institutions. By doing so, universities empower the next generation of leaders to carry forward sustainability efforts, creating a lasting impact on both their campuses and the broader community.
Ajman University is the co-founder of the UCN Decarbonization Academy along with the American University of Sharjah (AUS) and New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD). That reflects its ongoing dedication to raising awareness and championing best practices in energy management and carbon neutrality. The university continues to position itself at the forefront of sustainability initiatives, demonstrating how education and environmental responsibility can advance hand in hand.
