Ajman University’s Office of Sustainability, in collaboration with Al Zorah Golf Club – a subsidiary of Al Zorah Development Private Company– and Quest for Adventure, has resumed the Mangrove Planting and Golf Tour initiative, building on the first phase launched last year.
The five-week program brought together students from private schools, students of determination, and members of the Ajman University community, offering them a unique opportunity to become environmental champions by directly engaging in hands-on activities that instill values of environmental responsibility and raise awareness about the importance of preserving coastal ecosystems.
The initiative seeks to support the UAE’s goal of planting 100 million mangrove trees by 2030, contributing to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, restoring ecosystems, protecting biodiversity, and building a sustainable future for generations to come. It also aligns with Ajman’s commitment to doubling the size of the mangrove forests in the Al Zorah Nature Reserve to reach 2.4 million trees, while complementing Ajman University’s climate and sustainability strategy.
Furthermore, the initiative aims to support the University’s commitment to the Nature Positive Universities Alliance, in collaboration with the University of Oxford and the United Nations Environment Programme. It provides participants with opportunities to connect with nature, appreciate the beauty of marine landscapes, and strengthen their sense of environmental responsibility. The program also serves as a platform to expand networks through teamwork and community engagement activities.
This initiative reflects Ajman University’s ongoing efforts to launch and implement innovative projects that support sustainability and climate action, while reinforcing its role as a leading institution contributing to national goals and enhancing the UAE’s position on the global sustainability map.
