Ajman University is proud to announce its recent membership with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). As the leading authority on sustainable building practices worldwide, the USGBC is renowned for developing the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) green building certification program—the most widely used green building rating system in the world.
This membership marks a significant milestone in Ajman University's sustainability journey, reinforcing its commitment to embedding environmental stewardship across its campuses, curricula, and community. It builds on the University’s strong foundation of sustainability leadership, including being the first in the UAE to join the International Sustainable Campus Network (ISCN) alongside Harvard and MIT, and its active role in the Emirates Green Building Council (EmiratesGBC).
The USGBC membership unlocks a wealth of opportunities for the entire AU community, empowering students, faculty, and staff to lead the way in sustainable development:
Access to World-Class Knowledge & Resources: The AU community gains access to a vast repository of cutting-edge research, case studies, and best practices in green building, sustainable design, and environmental performance. This knowledge can be directly integrated into academic programs and campus operations.
Professional Development & Credentialing: Members benefit from exclusive training opportunities, workshops, and pathways to pursue globally recognized credentials such as the LEED Green Associate and LEED AP certifications. These credentials significantly enhance the career prospects of students and professionals in architecture, engineering, urban planning, and sustainability fields.
Networking & Collaboration: Membership opens doors to a global network of sustainability leaders, industry experts, and like-minded institutions. This facilitates collaboration on research, knowledge exchange, and participation in international sustainability initiatives.
Campus Innovation & Living Labs: The membership supports AU's vision of treating its campuses as "living labs" for sustainability. By leveraging USGBC's frameworks, the University can pilot innovative green technologies, improve building efficiency, and reduce its environmental footprint—creating a healthier, more sustainable learning environment for all.
Enhanced Employability: For students, being part of a USGBC-member institution signals a strong commitment to sustainability—a quality increasingly sought after by top employers. Graduates with exposure to USGBC standards and LEED principles are well-positioned to thrive in the green economy.
Ajman University invites all students, faculty, and staff to be part of this exciting journey. Whether you are interested in pursuing a LEED certification, participating in sustainability projects, or simply learning more about green building practices, we encourage you to get involved.
