Ajman University's Partnership with Ajman Sewerage

Ajman University has established a strategic partnership with Ajman Sewerage (Private) Company Ltd (ASPCL) , a key entity responsible for the collection and treatment of wastewater across the Emirate of Ajman. Established in 2002, Ajman Sewerage represents a successful partnership between the Government of Ajman and two leading international experts from the private sector: BESIX and Veolia. This collaboration underscores Ajman University's commitment to sustainability, environmental stewardship, and community engagement, aligning closely with the objectives of the Ajman Vision 2021 and the UAE's broader sustainability goals.

The partnership bridges the academic and environmental sectors, providing a platform for knowledge exchange, youth empowerment, and the advancement of sustainable water management practices in the region.

Key Areas of Collaboration

1. Ajman Sewerage Staff as Judge in the Green Entrepreneurship Program

Ajman Sewerage's commitment to sustainability and youth empowerment was demonstrated through the participation of its staff in Ajman University's Green Entrepreneurship Program. Ms. Julie Munn from Ajman Sewerage was invited to serve as a distinguished member of the judging panel for the program, which empowers students from universities nationwide to develop environmentally and socially conscious businesses addressing the region's unique environmental concerns.

Following an intensive bootcamp and a two-month mentorship period, participating teams pitched their business projects to a panel of judges, which included representatives from industry and academia. Ms. Munn's expertise in wastewater management and environmental sustainability brought invaluable insight to the evaluation process, helping to identify the most innovative and impactful student-led sustainability ventures. Her participation reflects Ajman Sewerage's dedication to nurturing young talent and supporting initiatives that contribute to a more sustainable future.

2. On-Campus Sustainability Infrastructure

Ajman University's commitment to water conservation is reflected in its own campus infrastructure. The University has established an on-site sewage treatment plant that treats and recycles sewage waste and used water from toilets and bathrooms. The plant complies with Pollution Control Board standards and has a daily production capacity of 25,000 gallons of treated water. This initiative demonstrates the University's dedication to sustainable water management and aligns with the principles championed by Ajman Sewerage.

3. Student Research in Wastewater Treatment

Ajman University students have actively contributed to research in sustainable wastewater treatment. At the "Ghars" Initiative on World Environment Day 2025, students showcased innovative sustainability-focused research projects, including "Toward Sustainable Wastewater Treatment Using Laser-Enhanced Photocatalysis" —a project aimed at developing advanced, eco-friendly solutions for wastewater treatment. This research reflects the University's commitment to fostering innovation in environmental sustainability and aligns with the expertise of Ajman Sewerage in wastewater management.
