Ajman University Launches First Cycle of UCN Decarbonization Academy with American University of Sharjah

In line with its commitment to sustainability and climate action, Ajman University has launched the University Climate Network (UCN) Decarbonization Academy in collaboration with the American University of Sharjah and New York University Abu Dhabi. This initiative, part of the UCN’s carbon neutrality pillar, supports the UAE’s 2025 Community Year, reinforcing the nation’s dedication to societal and environmental progress.

Empowering Sustainability Through Knowledge

First conceived in mid-2024, the UCN Decarbonization Academy promotes environmental sustainability and climate awareness through expert-led interactive workshops. Designed to equip participants with the skills to develop effective decarbonization strategies, the academy helps institutions reduce emissions and adopt sustainable practices.

Key Focus Areas of the First Cycle

The inaugural cycle covered critical decarbonization topics, including:

• Drafting a Climate Action Plan: Practical steps to achieve carbon neutrality via planning and strategy. Presented by Mr. Antonious Vouloudis - Senior Director of Sustainability and Stewardship at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD).

• Climate and Carbon Literacy: Understanding the importance of reducing carbon emissions. Presented by Ms. Maya Haddad - Senior Sustainability Manager at Ajman University (AU).

• Navigating Data Collection and Emissions' Calculation : Measuring environmental impact for informed decision-making. Presented by Mrs. Julia Carlow - Assosiate Head of Sustainability at American University of Sharjah (AUS).

• Considerations for Improving Energy Efficiency: Implementing innovative solutions to reduce carbon footprints. Presented by Mr. Rabi Alkhofash - Vice Chancellor for Financial and Administrative Affairs at Ajman University (AU).
