On October 22, 2022, Ajman University warmly welcomed children and their mothers from different Emirates to raise awareness about sustainable planting, self-sufficiency in food security, reducing food waste, and promoting responsible food consumption. This event, hosted by the Office of Environmental Health and Safety and supported by current students and alums, emphasized the importance of not wasting food and adopting sustainable practices. The students went to nurseries and farms for different homegrown plants and fruits.
A pivotal message emphasized the importance of portion control and discouraging food wastage. The young participants had the opportunity to learn about an environmentally friendly approach to utilizing leftover food. Children visited a compost station where they could witness the process of transforming food scraps into valuable compost material instead of being discarded, aligning perfectly with the principles of a circular economy. Ajman University's initiative effectively promotes sustainability and waste reduction, all while educating the community about responsible food practices.
This event actively supports SDG 12, which promotes responsible consumption and production. It demonstrates the university's commitment to sustainable practices and its role in creating a greener, more eco-conscious future. Ajman University's efforts align with the global goals of the SDGs by fostering responsible food consumption and environmental well-being, exemplifying a shared commitment to a better tomorrow.
