Ajman University’s Role in the ISCN Sustainability Governance & Leadership Community of Practice

Ajman University (AU) proudly stands as an active member of the International Sustainable Campus Network (ISCN) Sustainability Governance & Leadership Community of Practice, a global alliance of leading higher education institutions committed to embedding sustainability within their core governance and leadership frameworks. This distinguished community includes prestigious universities such as Harvard University, the University of Toronto, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), all working together to drive meaningful, long-term sustainability initiatives.

The Sustainability Governance & Leadership Community of Practice emphasizes the importance of fostering leadership buy-in and stakeholder engagement to create governance models that support sustainability across all levels of an institution. Through this collaboration, members exchange knowledge, share best practices, and engage in peer learning to encourage their universities to lead the path towards a sustainable future. At the helm of this community is John Robinson, Co-Chair of the University of Toronto’s Committee on the Environment, Climate Change, and Sustainability (CECCS). In his leadership role, John works alongside Ron Saporta, the university’s Chief Operating Officer, to champion sustainability across various dimensions of the university. Together, they spearhead efforts to transform sustainability in teaching, research, operations, and community engagement, with a strategic focus on governance and leadership.
