Ajman University (AU) has further solidified its commitment to global sustainability leadership through a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Emirates Green Building Council (EmiratesGBC). This strategic alliance, endorsed by Chancellor Prof. Dr. Karim Seghir and EmiratesGBC Chairman Mr. Khaled Bushnaq, establishes a comprehensive framework to integrate sustainability across the University’s core functions: curriculum enhancement, research innovation, and community engagement.
This partnership directly supports AU's strategic pillar of fostering sustainable development and amplifying its societal impact. A key objective is the enrichment of academic offerings within the College of Architecture, Art, and Design (CAAD), providing students with direct pathways to applied research, professional certification guidance, and policy development in green building practices.
The collaboration has yielded significant, high-impact activities that demonstrate AU's active role in shaping regional sustainability discourse:
1. Recognition of Academic Expertise at Regional Forum
The University’s academic expertise was prominently featured at the MENA Green Building Awards 2024, where an AU representative served on the official judging panel. This role underscores the institution's influence in evaluating and advancing best practices in sustainable design and construction across the Middle East and North Africa, aligning its academic standards with regional industry excellence.
2. Pioneering Research in Sustainable Built Environments
AU is a key implementing partner in the "Healthy UAE Universities Campaign," an initiative led by EmiratesGBC and Saint-Gobain. The University recently hosted a critical "Measurement Week" project, facilitating advanced research into Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) and Energy Monitoring on campus. This partnership with international industry leaders exemplifies AU’s capacity to conduct translational research that directly contributes to healthier, more energy-efficient educational infrastructures.
The University extends its gratitude to Dr. Riad, Dean of CAAD, for his academic leadership, and to its research partners from Saint-Gobain and EmiratesGBC for their collaborative engagement.
Through this multi-faceted partnership with EmiratesGBC, Ajman University demonstrates a sustained institutional commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). This initiative is a testament to AU's dedication to producing graduates who are equipped to drive the green economy and to conducting research that delivers tangible, sustainable impact.
