Ajman, UAE – A distinguished delegation from Ajman University, accompanied by a dedicated student group, participated as an official partner in the landmark launch of the region’s first 100% water-from-air sustainable water bottling plant at Bahi Ajman Palace Hotel. The initiative, developed in partnership with AirOWater Global, aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and reinforces the UAE’s Net Zero Vision.
The launch event was graced by His Highness Sheikh Abdulaziz Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Ajman Department of Tourism Development, and His Excellency Mahmood Khaleel Ahmed Alsayed Alhashmi, Director General of Ajman Department of Tourism Development. The event was also attended by His Excellency Sheikh Salem Bin Faisal Al Qassimi, Vice Chairman of Faisal Holding LLC, and His Excellency Sheikh Sultan Bin Faisal Al Qassimi, Vice Chairman of Faisal Holding LLC.
Ajman University’s participation highlighted the growing role of academic institutions in supporting practical sustainability solutions and encouraging student engagement with innovative environmental technologies.
Commenting on the participation, Dr Abdulhaq Alnuami, Vice Chancellor for Strategic Communications at Ajman University, said: “We are proud to witness with Bahi Ajman Palace Hotel and AirOWater Global on this pioneering sustainability initiative. This project offers our students a valuable real-world example of how innovation, environmental responsibility and cross-sector collaboration can address critical challenges. At Ajman University, we are committed to preparing future leaders who understand that sustainability is not only a goal but a shared responsibility.”
The state-of-the-art bottling plant produces 365,000 liters of pure drinking water annually by harnessing atmospheric moisture. It serves 100% of the hotel’s guests across rooms, dining areas, beach zones and poolside lounges, while promoting plastic-free reusable glass bottles and the recycling of broken glass.
By eliminating an equivalent number of single-use plastic bottles, the initiative achieves an annual carbon footprint reduction of 33.58 metric tons of CO₂e. It also removes the need for plastic production and long-haul transportation while reducing landfill waste.
Iftikhar Hamdani, Area General Manager of Bahi Ajman Palace Hotel, expressed pride in leading the transformative project, noting that the plant promotes plastic-free reusable glass bottles and leverages an untapped resource — water from air. Shubhojit Mahalanobis, Co-Founder and Partner at AirOWater Global, commended the hotel’s commitment to sustainability and highlighted the potential for further collaboration in the Northern Emirates.
The Ajman University student group received an overview of the water-from-air technology and its environmental impact during the launch, gaining first-hand insight into how the hospitality sector can advance circular economy practices.
The collaboration positions Ajman University and Bahi Ajman Palace Hotel as key contributors to the Northern Emirates’ sustainability agenda, demonstrating how academia, industry and technology can work together to set new benchmarks for environmental stewardship.
