Ajman University strengthened its engagement in regional climate and sustainability dialogue through the participation of its Office of Sustainability in the webinar “Policy and Sustainability: Lessons from the MENA and Beyond,” organized by the MENA Climate Solutions Research Network, an initiative of the UAE Universities Climate Network (UCN) in collaboration with the Climate Champions Team.
Held virtually on 27 November 2025, the webinar brought together experts from climate finance, economics, sustainability, policy, and development to examine the intersection between policy and sustainability in the MENA region and beyond. The discussion explored successful approaches and common challenges across different regional contexts, while considering how relevant lessons could be adapted to the UAE to support sustainable development and informed policymaking.
The panel featured Samantha Youngeun Shin, Independent Climate Finance and Policy Advisor and Researcher; Prof. Suzanna Elmassah, Professor of Economics and Sustainability at Zayed University; Anushree Tripathi, Trustee of the Justice Ajay Kumar Tripathi Foundation; and R Mazumdar, Founder of Tiger Standard. The session was moderated by Dr. Rasha Bayoumi, UCN Co-Chair and Head of Research at the University of Birmingham Dubai.
Representing Ajman University, Rami Elhadi from the Office of Sustainability participated in the session, engaging with regional and international perspectives on the role of policy in advancing sustainability and addressing complex climate and development challenges. The webinar provided an opportunity for knowledge exchange on approaches that can inform sustainability practice and strengthen the connection between evidence, policy, and institutional action.
The discussion further highlighted the importance of considering regional contexts when developing sustainability policies and translating them into practical and locally relevant action. Such exchanges contribute to strengthening collaboration and shared learning among universities and sustainability practitioners across the region.
Ajman University’s participation reflects the University’s continued commitment to regional collaboration, knowledge exchange, and institutional capacity building in support of climate action and sustainable development. Through its engagement with the UAE Universities Climate Network and its related initiatives, the Office of Sustainability continues to contribute to regional dialogue on practical pathways for advancing sustainability
