Ajman University Participates in Dubai Holding’s Climate Conversations Event on Ocean Conservation
Ajman, UAE – Ajman University participated in Dubai Holding’s Climate Conversations series, a special fireside chat featuring Jo Ruxton MBE, founder of Ocean Generation and producer of the award-winning documentary A Plastic Ocean. The virtual event, held on 16 September 2025, explored the journey behind the film and the urgent need to protect marine ecosystems.
Representing Ajman University, Maya Haddad, Senior Sustainability Manager, joined the session, which was moderated by Stephanie Asgill, Head of Sustainability at Dubai Holding. The discussion highlighted Jo Ruxton’s eight-year journey producing A Plastic Ocean, the realities she witnessed of marine plastic pollution, and how the film sparked behaviour change and influenced policy worldwide.
The conversation also addressed how Ocean Generation is empowering young people to face eco-anxiety with confidence, and how individuals can play a part in protecting the ocean — the ecosystem responsible for every second breath we take.
Participants gained practical insights into turning awareness into action, with the session underscoring the role of storytelling and education in driving environmental change. The event aligned with Ajman University’s ongoing efforts to advance ocean-related sustainability goals, including SDG 14 on life below water, and to engage with regional leaders on pressing climate challenges.
Ajman University’s participation reflects its continued commitment to international collaboration on sustainable development and to supporting the UAE’s Net Zero targets through academic leadership and community engagement.
