Ajman University Participates in Key Informant Interview for UAE National Adaptation Plan Development
Ajman University participated in a Key Informant Interview (KII) on the Adaptation Finance Capacity Assessment for the UAE National Adaptation Plan (NAP) Development, held virtually on Wednesday, 8 October 2025. The interview was conducted by the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) as a follow-up to the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment’s (MOCCAE) Validation Workshop held on 25 September 2025.
Representing Ajman University, Maya Haddad, Senior Sustainability Manager, provided expert insights during the semi-structured interview, which serves as a primary qualitative evidence stream to contextualize and validate findings from the desk review and stakeholder survey. The KIIs are designed to verify the existence and implementation of relevant policies and financial instruments, uncover institutional practices and coordination pathways, clarify institutional mandates, map roles and responsibilities, and identify challenges and priority opportunities for strengthening adaptation financing under the UAE NAP.
During the interview, Ajman University was asked to share how it contributes to research, innovation, and policy inputs related to climate adaptation and resilience in the UAE. Discussions also explored the university’s role in building human and institutional capacity for adaptation finance through specialized curricula, training, and partnerships with government and private entities. The interview further examined existing collaborations between Ajman University and government agencies, development partners, and the private sector to support climate adaptation research, data generation, and pilot projects, as well as the university’s participation in data-driven initiatives such as vulnerability mapping, climate risk modeling, and adaptation impact monitoring that inform national and emirate-level policy decisions.
The KIIs are expected to contribute significantly to the triangulation of desk research and ensure the adaptation finance capacity assessment is well-grounded in UAE-specific realities. The outcomes will include a structured set of qualitative insights integrated into the indicator scoring, evidence-backed confirmations of policies and practices, clear articulation of institutional roles and coordination interfaces relevant to adaptation finance, and actionable recommendations to enhance adaptation financing capacity and implementation under the UAE NAP.
Ajman University’s participation reflects its continued commitment to supporting national climate resilience efforts and advancing the UAE’s broader sustainability and adaptation goals. By contributing academic expertise and operational insights to the NAP process, the university reinforces its role as an active partner in the UAE’s climate action agenda, bridging research, policy, and practice to strengthen the country’s response to climate change impacts.
