Ajman, UAE — In a continued demonstration of its leadership in sustainability and green building education, Ajman University has further activated its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Emirates Green Building Council (EmiratesGBC). As part of this ongoing collaboration, an Ajman University representative recently served as a distinguished judge for the 13th Annual MENA Green Building Awards.
Aligning with the broader objectives of the World Green Economy Summit (WGES) to accelerate the transition to a green economy, the MENA Green Building Awards recognize outstanding leadership, innovation, and sustainability across the region's built environment.
Evaluating Regional Excellence in the Built Environment
As a judge for this prestigious regional award, the Ajman University representative reviewed a diverse portfolio of pioneering projects submitted by the EmiratesGBC. The evaluation process focused on identifying initiatives that push the boundaries of sustainable design, resource efficiency, and environmental stewardship in the built environment.
This role provided a valuable opportunity to not only assess the latest green building innovations but also to bring global best practices back to the Ajman University community. The insights gained from reviewing these cutting-edge projects will help inform the university’s own campus decarbonization strategies and academic curricula.
A Milestone in the EmiratesGBC MoU
The judging appointment is a direct result of the continuous activation of the strategic MoU between Ajman University and EmiratesGBC. Signed to integrate sustainability across the university's core functions, the partnership focuses on three main pillars:
-
Curriculum Enhancement: Embedding green building principles and sustainability into academic programs.
-
Research Innovation: Collaborating on applied research related to sustainable built environments.
-
Community Engagement: Joint initiatives such as the "Healthy UAE Universities Campaign," which involves advanced research into Indoor Environmental Quality and Energy Monitoring on campus.
Driving the Green Economy Forward
Ajman University’s active role in the MENA Green Building Awards reflects its unwavering commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By engaging with industry leaders and evaluating regional sustainability projects, the university continues to bridge the gap between academic excellence and real-world environmental impact.
This initiative builds on Ajman University’s recent global recognitions, including its ranking among the world's top 300 universities in the Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Rankings 2026, where it secured the #1 spot in the UAE for SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
By maintaining an active and dynamic partnership with EmiratesGBC, Ajman University is ensuring that its students, faculty, and campus operations remain at the forefront of the region’s green building and sustainability movement.
