Ajman University continues to cement its position as a leader in climate action and global youth empowerment, as one of its outstanding students was selected to represent both the UAE and Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company) at the prestigious Youth 4 Sustainability (Y4S) Beyond Borders Program.
Held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in August 2025, the highly competitive program brought together a select group of emerging youth leaders from the UAE, Germany, India, and Malaysia to collaborate under the critical theme of “Energy Transition 2025.”
During the intensive program, the Ajman University representative engaged in expert-led sessions, site visits, and interactive dialogues with local changemakers. The cohort had the unique opportunity to learn from and exchange ideas with prominent global thought leaders, including Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad (Former Minister of Natural Resources, Energy, and Climate Change), Dr. Renard Siew, Ms. Claire Anthony, and Mr. Rumaizi A. Halim.
These sessions provided the students with a comprehensive understanding of the policy, technological, and social dimensions of the global energy transition, highlighting the diverse approaches taken by different nations toward a sustainable future.
A major highlight of the program was a hands-on community storytelling project. The Ajman University student and their international teammates went into the local community to interview small businesses, capturing their authentic perspectives on sustainability and how the energy transformation affects them on the ground.
The team synthesized these narratives into a compelling short film, which they proudly presented in the presence of the UAE Embassy in Malaysia, represented by Mr. Aamer Alteneiji. This presentation not only showcased the students' storytelling and analytical skills but also bridged the gap between youth climate action and international diplomacy.
The Y4S Beyond Borders Program served as a profound lesson in human-centered collaboration. Reflecting on the experience, the student emphasized how the program significantly enhanced their cross-cultural collaboration skills. Furthermore, the experience deepened their understanding of how different industries are interconnected—specifically, how healthcare innovation and the energy transition share the same human-centered foundation, both striving to improve lives and build resilient communities.
This remarkable achievement aligns perfectly with Ajman University’s strategic commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). As an institution ranked #1 in the UAE for these categories in the Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Rankings 2026, Ajman University is dedicated to providing students with platforms to engage with global networks and become active participants in the green economy.
By representing the UAE and Masdar on the international stage, this Ajman University student has returned with invaluable insights that will enrich the campus community and inspire fellow students to become the next generation of environmental leaders
