An outstanding student from Ajman University has been selected to join the highly competitive Future Sustainability Leaders (FSL) Program 2025, becoming the only student from the university to earn a place in this prestigious global fellowship. Launched by Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company) under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the FSL program is a year-long initiative designed to cultivate the next generation of global sustainability changemakers.
The selection is a testament to the student's exceptional capabilities and vision, standing out among more than 2,000 international applicants from around the world. Only 50 participants were chosen for the 2025 cohort, making this recognition both highly competitive and globally significant.
Throughout the year-long program, which began in January 2025, the Ajman University representative has engaged in a comprehensive curriculum tailored for youth changemakers. This has included leadership development modules, innovation workshops focusing on renewable energy, climate adaptation, and green finance, as well as high-level policy dialogues with global leaders, industry pioneers, and decision-makers.
A major highlight of the fellowship was participating in Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2025. During this landmark event, the student had the distinct honor of interacting with H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed and H.E. Dr. Sultan Al Jaber. The student also attended exclusive sessions with prominent diplomats, including H.E. Dr. Nawal Al-Hosany, the Permanent Representative of the UAE to IRENA, gaining invaluable insights into international climate diplomacy and policy.
The FSL program has proven to be more than just an academic fellowship; it has been a transformative journey. Equipped with practical frameworks, real-world case studies, and a robust peer network, the student is now better positioned to execute a unique vision: merging pharmaceutical sciences with sustainability innovation.
Reflecting on the experience, the student emphasized how the program strengthened their capacity to design healthcare solutions with deep environmental responsibility. This interdisciplinary approach positions them to contribute meaningfully to both national strategies and global sustainability agendas, proving that sustainability is not just about energy, but about human health and well-being.
This remarkable achievement perfectly embodies Ajman University’s commitment to fostering global citizens and advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. As an institution ranked among the world's top 300 universities in the Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Rankings 2026, and #1 in the UAE for SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), Ajman University actively supports students in pursuing opportunities that bridge academic disciplines and real-world impact.
By representing Ajman University at the highest levels of global sustainability dialogue, this student is not only enhancing their own professional trajectory but also bringing invaluable knowledge and inspiration back to the AU community. The university extends its congratulations and looks forward to seeing the continued impact of this transformative journey.
