Ajman University’s College of Media Hosts Campus Emergency Safety Workshop, Linking Preparedness to Climate Action
Ajman, UAE – The College of Media at Ajman University organized a workshop on the fundamentals of safety during emergency situations on campus, with a special contribution from Ms. Maya Haddad and Dr. Fetta Djessas. The session was held in support of students working on Integrated Marketing Communications graduation projects and their community initiatives, and it framed campus emergency preparedness as part of broader climate action and resilience efforts.
The workshop focused on how students should respond to emergency situations they may encounter within the university campus, including practical guidance on fire exits and correct evacuation routes. Ms. Haddad provided students with advice on handling emergencies properly and acting responsibly during critical incidents.
The College of Media linked the workshop to climate action by highlighting that climate change is increasing the frequency and intensity of extreme weather and other emergencies, making disaster preparedness and campus resilience essential components of adaptation. By equipping students with knowledge of evacuation procedures and safety protocols, the workshop supports a culture of readiness that complements Ajman University’s commitment to sustainability and the UAE’s climate goals, including the Net Zero Vision.
In its invitation to Ms. Haddad and Dr. Djessas, the College of Media expressed appreciation for her efforts in supporting students involved in Integrated Marketing Communications graduation projects and their community initiatives. The college noted that her participation would help raise students’ awareness of campus safety protocols and emergency preparedness.
The workshop reflects Ajman University’s commitment to student safety and to enriching learning through practical, community-oriented activities. By connecting emergency preparedness with climate resilience, the College of Media aims to prepare students to respond effectively to emergencies and to promote sustainability and safety within the university community.
An outstanding student project stood out, which is a prototype for a safety application called SANAD. SANAD links AU community members to key resources and alerts during safety, medical or climate related emergencies. To check out the application, click here.
