Ajman University strengthened its capacity in climate and health through the successful participation of its Office of Sustainability in the Eastern Mediterranean Climate and Health Responders Course, a regional programme focused on building knowledge and practical capacity to address the health impacts of climate change.
Delivered from February 11 to April 29, 2026, the course brought together participants from across the Eastern Mediterranean through a series of eleven weekly sessions covering the growing links between climate change and health. The programme was developed through a partnership led by the Global Consortium on Climate and Health Education (GCCHE) and the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean (WHO EMRO), together with regional and international academic and public-health institutions.
The course examined a range of climate-related health challenges, including heat-related illness, air quality, food security and nutrition, water scarcity and waterborne diseases, vector-borne diseases, climate-related migration and displacement, mental health, and climate-resilient health systems. It also addressed climate justice, communication, engagement, and advocacy as important components of effective climate and health action.
Representing Ajman University’s Office of Sustainability, Rami Elhadi completed the 16.5-hour course and was awarded a Certificate of Participation dated 19 May 2026, having attended at least seven of the eleven sessions and successfully passed the final examination.
The course provided an opportunity to strengthen understanding of the connections between climate change, public health, environmental conditions, and community resilience. For a university sustainability setting, this knowledge is particularly relevant to recognizing emerging climate-related risks and supporting more integrated approaches to health, safety, and sustainability.
Ajman University’s participation reflects its continued commitment to professional development, climate action, and regional knowledge exchange. Through the engagement of its Office of Sustainability in international and regional learning opportunities, the University continues to strengthen the expertise needed to support a healthier, more sustainable, and climate-resilient community.
